How to Choose Professions

From TBC expansion, each profession can make epic items or gears for the players that can only use by themselves. So choose the proper trade skill can provide very good improvement. The followings are the improvement you can get by each profession.

Mining: Increase 300 HP
Skinning: Increase Critical Hit rate by 15
Herbalism: Regenerate 1200 HP within 5 sec, 3 minutes cooldown

The above three collection skills can only increase basic attributes. Comparing with other trade skills, collection skills really don't offer too many bonuses. The purpose of choosing collection skill is not for gear improvement, it's mainly for making more gold.

Alchemy:

Alchemy has little to do to hunter due to the great effect from skill-- Aspect of the Viper. Hunters need less mana potions. Considering the restriction of potion use in battle & raid after Patch 3.0, and Alchemist Stone's little effect for hunters, Alchemy is not the preferred skill for hunters.

Enchanting:

Many players have made a lot of money with this trade skill. After TBC, Enchanters can enchant their own rings with special bonuses. But for hunters, it can only bring little improvement. So this is not a useful skill.

Engineering:

Various bombs can be made by engineer, which give a good supply when you need AOE spells, but honestly can not depend` on it. Heads and guns made by engineering are great for hunters. Goblin Jumper Cables XL will sometimes be able to shock a healer back to life when a CR occurs. Generally speaking, hunters can consider about it. Numbers of interesting props can be made. Also Flying machine control and Mekgineer's Chopper are pretty cool if you want to attract eyes..

Inscription:

Inscription is now available in patch 3.0. It is very similar to Enchanting. This is also a trade skill can bring you a lot of money, and therefore it can do less improvement. You shouldn't learn this profession if you have more expectations on improving your hunter.

Jewelcrafting:

This is a very good skill that can bring you money and extra bonus. Special gems and trinkets from this skill are very useful for hunters. And there are useful gems in each specific color gem cluster. Therefore, this Profession is recommended for hunter.

Blacksmithing:

Blacksmithing barely provides anything for hunters except wasting your money.

Leatherworking:

Leatherworking is the preferred profession skill for hunters all the time. Leatherworkers can create a full set of rare armor during 70-80. This set of armor helps a lot when you are leveling. Also there will be great epic leather and mail armors at level 80. Armor kits , quivers ,and ammo pouches are also hunters' favorite.

Tailoring:

Tailoring makes no sense for hunters except making some bags, normally no hunters choose this skill.

In conclusion, leatherworking might be the best profession for hunters, especially with skinning. Engineering, jewelcrafting and mining can be choices also.
